Mafia II is shaping up to be the new PhysX Showcase. To see the PhysX that has been implemented into the game in action be sure to check out the Official Mafia II Nvidia PhysX Trailer.
PC Games Hardware: Are there any differences between the Console and the PC Version of Mafia 2 as far as technical as well as visual aspects are concerned, for example GPU accelerated PhysX effects?
Denby Grace: You hit the nail on the head. The biggest difference is the GPU enabled physics effects. While on a system without GPU (consoles and ATI cards), the game will have a great PhysX simulation with particles and cloth, however, if you have the extra hardware we are able to push things to a whole new level which has not yet been seen in open world game before. Our destructible environments feature thousands of physical particles which in turn can be affected by individual explosion force fields to make them move. It’s all very impressive and it’s these kinds of improvements that high end PC gamers can expect.
Although several months old now we never got around to posting about the Official Mafia II Nvidia PhysX Trailer that was released to show off the PhysX features that have been implemented into the game. Back in march a Mafia II PhysX Developer video was released where one of the developers talks about how they are going to be using PhysX in Mafia II for some really impressive PhysX based destruction along with PhysX based cloth physics. Now the new Mafia II Nvidia PhysX Trailer shows off the PhysX effects that have been implemented into the game and it looks very impressive. Mafia II is shaping up to be the new PhysX showcase. Check out the video below and the official Mafia II web page here.
It was recently reported that Mafia II might be implementing PhysX based clothing into the game, based upon developer videos that showcased the APEX Clothing module for the PhysX Toolset that appeared to show the main character in Mafia II. Now with the launch of the NVIDIA GTX 400 series video cards a new Mafia II PhysX trailer has been released with one of the game developers talking about Mafia II and how and why they have implemented PhysX into the game. The video shows off some impressive gameplay footage showing off PhysX based clothing, destructible environments and dramatic explosions. Check out the video below.
In a recent developer video that is showcasing the APEX Clothing module for the PhysX Toolset ,PhysX based Clothing is being shown off, some pretty cool stuff, the video shows a character within the development tool having PhysX clothing being added to him, the clothing is based on PhysX APEX Clothing and moves around realistically. PhysXinfo.com however has noticed something very interesting, the character being used to show of the Apex clothing development tool is Vito Scaletta the main character from the upcoming Mafia II game. It was already announced before that Mafia II would make use of GPU PhysX and other PhysX effects but this is really cool to see PhysX based clothing being implemented into a game making the characters look more realistic.
We embedded the two videos below showing the APEX Clothing module being used check them out:
