DaVinci: Microsoft Surface Physics Illustrator Ported To Microsoft Kinect

This is a few month old now but I never got around to posting about it so I figured I would do it now. The team behind the Microsoft Surface Physics Illustrator called DaVinci that was originally made to work with Microsoft Surface, has ported it over to the Microsoft Kinect platform. Check it out below.

DaVinci: Microsoft Surface Physics Illustrator Ported To Microsoft Kinect Video:

DaVinci prototype on Xbox Kinect from Razorfish – Emerging Experiences on Vimeo.

The launch of Xbox Kinect has caused much excitement in the open source community. In the last few weeks, developers have managed to tap into the hardware with impressive results. We’ve seen applications ranging from gesture-based experiences to 3D imaging.

We’ve taken this exciting opportunity to port our popular DaVinci experience to the Kinect platform. Gestures are used to create objects and control the physics of the environment. Your hands appear in the interface which allows you to literally grab objects out of thin air and move them in the environment. Additional gestures allow you to affect the gravity, magnetism and “planetary attraction”.

AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Graphics HK-2207 Real-Time Demo Now Available

The AMD “Mecha Rampage” demo that we posted about back in November has been officially released and available for download by AMD. We have been excited for this demo since it uses bullet physics and on the fly procedurally generated unique debris leveraging DX11 tessellation to show off some pretty cool physics based destruction and debris. You can download it and find out more information here. Hardwareluxx has also made and uploaded a video to YouTube showing off what the demo looks like, this time not cam footage of the AMD event back in November, you can check it out below.

From AMD Radeon™ HD 6900 Series Graphics Real-Time Demo:

The HK-2207 real-time demo features a number of post processing effects (depth-of-field, lens flare, ghosting, aerial perspective/atmospheric, LUT, emissive and reflection) provided as an easy approach for developers and artists to adopt Microsoft® DirectX® 11 programming. This demo also uses a current trend in game engines utilizing deferred lighting and deferred shading allowing many more lights and rapid prototyping. A newly developed GPU accelerated physics particle system is introduced utilizing DX11 DirectCompute. Bullet Physics is used with a new fracture/destruction approach that also features procedurally generated unique debris leveraging DX11 tessellation.

Demo: » HK2207.exe (655 MB)*

* The HK2207 demo requires Windows Vista® or above operating system, a Radeon™ HD 6900 Series graphics processor and associated Catalyst™ software, a dual- or quad-core CPU, and 2GB of RAM.

Ageia PhysX Cards (PPUs), Are they Still Worth It For Your System?

Andrew Elliott (also known as elliottad or MohawkADE) who recently made a very cool video for the Crank That S#!T Up with PhysX Video contest, has now made a new and very impressive video detailing the history of PhysX and the Ageia PhysX(PPU). Half of the video goes over the history of the Ageia PhysX card all the way up until Ageia and PhysX technology was acquired by Nvidia. Elliot then talks about whether or not the Aegia PhysX card is still a good solution if you are looking into a dedicated PhysX card for your system. As we know the answer is no as the Aegia PPU is no longer supported by Nvidia with newer PhysX driver releases. Elliot also covers the fact that the PhysX processing power required for games continues to increase causing laggy gameplay in newer games if a Ageia card is used.

This is a great video if you are not that familiar with Aegia and the PPU that started it all. Check it out below and be sure to check out Elliot’s YouTube Page here.

From PhysX Cards (PPUs), Are they Still Worth It?:

This is an informational video about the Ageia PhysX Card, also known as the PPU, and it’s impact on modern PC gaming. This video also discusses potential benefits and cons one may receive by owning one in this day in age.

Really a bit of an Ageia PhysX FAQ for noobs. If you’re already familiar with the PhysX card and you’re a hardcore new-age gamer, then I would not suggest this video to you.
