Dark Void PC Game Technology Trailer Featuring NVIDIA PhysX Technology And PhysX Comparison Video

NVIDIA has uploaded a new video to their YouTube channel titled “Dark Void PC Game Technology Trailer Featuring NVIDIA PhysX Technology” along with the NVIDIA “Dark Void PC Game Comparison Video Featuring NVIDIA PhysX Technology“. The PhysX comparison video which first appeared on the Dark Void nzone page has already been on YouTube after being uploaded by several different people but the new Technology Trailer appears to be new and shows the different PhysX effects that have been implemented into the game and what they look like in action. Pretty awesome stuff, check it out below or here at the NVIDIA YouTube channel.

From The NVIDIA YouTube Channel:

This video trailer featuring NVIDIA PhysX technology in the PC game Dark Void, shows various enhanced effects when using weapons, the grenade and the jetpack. NVIDIA PhysX technology has been fully integrated into the dangerous and exciting world of Dark Void to bring you a more realistic and physics based experience in the Void. In fact, Dark Void has the distinction of being the first game to use dynamic, accurate smoke effects and smoke trails for the games innovative jetpack, UFOs, and spaceships, all of which will be hardware-accelerated by GeForce GPUs when played on compatible PCs.

Dark Void PhysX Gameplay Performance and IQ From [H]ardOCP

Dark Void PhysX Gameplay Performance and IQ From [H]ardOCP

[H]ardOCP.com has done a really nice and in-depth review of the PhysX and image quality in Dark Void. Using several different video cards at different resolutions and all the different PhysX settings in the game [H]ardOCP tests out the PhysX performance in the game. On page 3 here [H]ardOCP goes in-depth explaining all the different PhysX settings in the game and what each setting brings to the game such as weapon particle effects, advanced fluid effects, PhysX turbulence and smoke.

There is no doubt that PhysX really brings some awesome effects to the game and makes the environment more lively and visually impressive but if you are interested in how your system will run Dark Void at the different PhysX settings or want to know what kind of system or video card you would need for an enjoyable gameplay than this is definitely worth the read.

If you want to see Dark Void and the PhysX effects in action be sure to check out the Dark Void GPU PhysX Comparison video from PhysXinfo.com and the Dark Void GPU PhysX Comparison video from NVIDIA we have recently posted about.

From [H]ardOCP:

Dark Void was recently released with some neat PhysX effects. We’ll explore gameplay performance and show you what PhysX support will do for you in this game with plenty of screenshots and performance comparisons.

Dark Void also supports NVIDIA’s proprietary PhysX technology. PhysX is used to accelerate effects, such as particle systems for weapon damage, and dynamic fluid systems used to simulate smoke from the jetpack’s engines. As it is an NVIDIA-specific feature, AMD video cards are automatically at a disadvantage by not being able to utilize these effects.

This game operates on a modified Unreal Engine 3 platform. It uses Microsoft’s DirectX 9.0c gaming API. As it runs on a nearly four year old game engine, and a five year old API, we expect performance in Dark Void to be stellar on all of our current generation video cards. The only caveat there is the addition of NVIDIA’s PhysX technology. PhysX potentially adds a tremendous amount of detail, and as such the GPU requirements can be more advanced, in spite of the maturity of the game engine and graphics API. We will certainly examine what manner of performance penalty PhysX brings to Dark Void.

Dark Void Review with PhysX Analysis and Benchmarks

Dark Void Review with PhysX Analysis and Benchmarks

GamingHeaven.net has put together a nice review of Dark Void along with a pretty in-depth analysis of the PhysX that has been implemented into the game. Check it out here.

From the GamingHeaven Dark Void Review with PhysX Analysis:

The use of Unreal 3 also means two things. Firstly we have an engine which is well optimised for the latest graphics cards, offering great performance and stability and secondly there is the option of adding in PhysX support with ease. Considering Airtight was one of the pioneers of PhysX compatible software it comes as no surprise that their second major title includes this technology. In fact, Dark Void is the first title to be released which uses NVIDIAS APEX SDK, PhysX plug-ins and Visual Debuggers which were designed to help developers integrate PhysX more easily.

PhysX support in Dark Void is split in to three settings. On low we have particle weapon effects. Medium adds enhanced Disintegrator gun effects with turbulent fluid motion. On High we have further enhancement of the weapon effects and jetpack turbulence/smoke effects using fluid simulation. With 30,000 particles in every disintegrator gun shot and 100,000 in smoke it comes as no surprise that NVIDIA recommend a GTX 260 as the dedicated PhysX card for high settings. It is also worth noting that the use of a turbulance/heat effect is the first time this has been used in a PhysX title.
