The official HD(720p) video of the jaw dropping Unreal Engine 3 Samaritan Tech Demo has been uploaded to YouTube. We have been pretty excited about this demo since we read the GDC 2011 session info which states that the demo is going to show off the full NVIDIA APEX PhysX suite of artist friendly tools and runtime libraries (Clothing, Destruction, Particles and Turbulence). The video was shown behind closed doors at GDC 2011 and a shacky cam video was released of the presentation, but now the official 720p video has been uploaded to YouTube by IGN. Check it out below. We still do not have much info about the Apex PhysX features that have been implemented into the demo and unfortunately PhysX and Physics in general was not the main showcase for this demo but rather the next generation graphics. But we can tell that it looks like the main character’s clothes are simulated with PhysX and the smoke/fog that is present throughout the demo could be simulated with PhysX turbulence.

Unfortunately after watching the demo that you can see for yourself below, it looks like PhysX technology is not the overall centerpiece of the demo but rather next generation graphics. We will have to wait until “The Technology Behind the DirectX 11 Unreal Engine Samaritan Demo (Presented by NVIDIA)” session video is out to get a better understanding of how Apex PhysX features were implemented into the demo. But we can tell that it looks like the main character’s clothes are simulated with PhysX and the smoke/fog that is present throughout the demo could be simulated with PhysX turbulence. YouTube user kproudfoot has uploaded his shaky cam footage from the NVIDIA booth at GDC 2011 showing off a jaw dropping APEX PhysX and destruction demonstration. The demo looks to be using APEX PhysX destruction and it completely destructible as you can see from the video below. Now this is what we are talking about and want to see in games! Now only if NVIDIA would release these tech demos for us to play with.
