NVIDIA’s Andrew Coonrad talks about the features and technology of the new GeForce GTX 660 Ti in a nice video overview of the card that shows off some nice footage of the PhysX features that will be in Borderlands 2. I have been excited about Borderlands 2 since I saw the Borderlands 2 GPU PhysX Tech Demo which showed off some really impressive PhysX effects that will be in the game. In the video you can see some cool particle, fluid, and cloth effects. Now it will be interesting to see if these full effects will be in single player only or also in multiplayer and not scaled down. Check it out below.
And speaking of Borderlands 2, NVIDIA has put together a sweet deal; for a limited time, anyone who purchases a GeForce GTX 660 Ti graphics cards through an authorized e-tailer in North America or Europe (Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, etc) will receive a free Steam copy of the game. Needless to say, Borderlands 2 runs great on the GTX 660 Ti, letting you play the eagerly anticipated game at 1920×1080 with all settings, including GPU PhysX, maxed out. GPUs slower than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti can make use of the PhysX effects also, though none are able to show them all at a fluid 60 frames per second at 1920×1080, with all other features maxed out and enabled, making the GTX 660 Ti a perfect upgrade for all Borderlands fans.

Futuremark has released a new Tech Demo showing off the next 3DMark that is going to be released sometime this year. I am not exactly sure what is going on in the demo but it has some cool particle and smoke effects. According to the press release “The visible particles and clouds of smoke in the scene react to other objects using fluid dynamics simulation.” Now the question is whether or not this is PhysX based or Futuremark is going to continue to use Bullet Physics like they did in 3DMark 11? I hope there are also other physics effects like destruction but we will have to wait and see.
Our 3DMark DirectX 11 tech demo brings this scene to life with intelligent tessellation and advanced volumetric lighting using real-time light scattering. The visible particles and clouds of smoke in the scene react to other objects using fluid dynamics simulation. Post processing, ambient occlusion and various lens effects complete the look. The music and audio design is by Pedro Macedo Camacho, who also created the soundtrack for 3DMark 11.
Our next 3DMark will be the world’s first unified graphics benchmark allowing testing of DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 capable hardware through the DirectX 11 API. This trailer provides a preview of the DirectX 11 test. It is a work-in-progress and does not respresent the final quality of the benchmark. The new 3DMark is currently in development and is expected later in 2012 following the launch of Windows 8. It will also be compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
Several months ago I announced that I would be building a dedicated PhysX test system for the site to test out Hybrid PhysX configurations and do benchmarking and reviews. This past weekend I finally got around to playing around to putting it together. I got it up and running with Windows 7 and the GT430 video card as the dedicated PhysX card. To test out the Hybrid PhysX I used GenL’s Hybrid PhysX mod v1.05ff along with the latest GeForce 301.42 – WHQL video card drivers and the packaged PhysX System Software v9.12.0213 with the XFX GT430 as the dedicated PhysX card. It worked with FluidMark 1.3.1 but not the newer version. I also could not get any of the games or demos to run with it. As of right now GenL has stopped updating the mod to work with the newest drivers so the latest stable drivers that work with v10.05ff are the 285.58 / 285.62 Geforce drivers and PhysX system software 9.11.0621.
This weekend I plan to try out the Hybrid PhysX mod with latest supported drivers that work so I can really do some testing and benchmarks so stay tuned!
Below are the specs for the dedicated PhysX test system. As i said before, i plan to upgrade it with newer hardware and get a second HD6950 for CrossFire + PhysX testing and more!
